With no signs of Eduardo Ferriera returning to the first team picture in the near future and Kingshuk Debnath re-injuring himself in the last I-League match, Anas Edathodika will have a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders, which includes mentoring the young Bikramjit Singh Jr. as well as neutralizing the threat of another free scoring Haitian, Wedson Ansalme. Wedson has already scored 5 goals from 7 appearances so far and is second in the race for the Golden Boot behind his Mohun Bagan counterpart, Darryl Duffy and Lajongas Pierrick Dipanda Dicka. If his interactions with media is anything to go by, Wedson is all charged up for the derby and become a heart-throb in the eyes of East Bengal fans by scoring goals in the Kolkata derby. Anas has been a brilliant performer for his previous teams, Mumbai FC and Pune FC and is a clean tackler of the ball, but he is yet to experience the pressure of playing in the Kolkata derby. It will be interesting to see how Anas leads the Bagan defense from the back to counter the threat of Wedson and company.
