Gujarat Lions signAIrfan Pathan as replacement for Dwayne Bravo who was ruled out of IPL with a hamstring injury.

Irfan went unsold at the auction in February at a base price of INR 50 lakhs. He posted a photograph of himself wearing a Lions jersey on Twitter; and said he was “looking forward to be part of this wonderful unit.”

An official from the Gujarat Lions confirmed the development late on Monday night, stating Pathan will join their roster.AThe franchise announced on Sunday that Bravo, who failed to recover from a hamstring injury; was out for the rest of the tournament.

Irfan’s IPL Experience

Irfan has been part of five IPL franchises – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils; Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiant – in the past. He has 80 wickets from 102 IPL games, apart from 1137 runs at a strike-rate of 120.57. However, he had a poor run with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016; scoring 11 runs in three innings and going wicketless in the eight overs he bowled.

Irfan Pathan had a decent outing with ball during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked up five wickets in four games at an average of 17.60 and an economy rate of 6.28. However, he struggled with the bat, managing just 32 runs.

Lions had hoped Bravo would be available for the second half of the tournament. He was undergoing rehabilitation in Rajkot, but couldn’t recover in time.

How good a replacement the Baroda all-rounder turns out to be remains to be seen. Over the last couple of years he hasnat been the player he once was. Irfan has been dogged with injuries which has taken a toll on him performance.

After making the playoffs last year, Lions are currently in seventh place, with two wins from seven games.AIt was Irfan’s experience of 102 IPL games in previous nine seasons; and dearth of quality all-rounders in the country that worked in his favour.
