Luis Suarez has played down reports that he picked up an injury while on international duty with Uruguay and also managed to get on the score sheet against Colombia.

A lot of the early round World Cup Qualifiers pit minnows against giants, but when Uruguay faced Colombia that, was never going to happen. The match turned out to a back and forth affair and that did not disappoint with 4 goals being scored in total. But what was really brilliant, was Luis Suarez’s goal, from an angle he had no business shooting from. Injury for Luis Suarez?? Well that ended the reports right there, but the striker did say he was just tired because of all the goals he’s scored.

Jokes apart,ASuarez did actually say that he was merely feeling the effects of playing so much football for club and country. Add jet lag from all the travelling to and from South America to play for his national side, definitely had some effect on the 29 year old. He appeared to be in some discomfort during Uruguay’s 2-2 draw, but still played the full ninety minutes. And on Tuesday reports emerged that he had picked up a knock after a challenge with international team-mate Diego Godin in training.

The 29-year-old was made goalkeeperAduring a training session and as keepers do, he collidedAwith the centre back during the exhibition game. Suarez insisted that he was fine and that he would be able to take part in Barcelona’s next match against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.

The Uruguayan said a?It was just an accumulation of all the tiredness. I have played a lot of matches and traveled a lot but the important thing is to give my all for this team.a He further stated a?Obviously we are frustrated because we felt like we could have won it. But we salvaged one more important point against a tough rival and we were playing away under these conditions.”

Suarez added that the weather had seriously affected Uruguay’s ability to play their usual style of football in Barranquilla. Heavy, persistent rain ensured that conditions not great for the clash with Colombia but, despite coming back to lead 2-1 with minutes to go, Uruguay were eventually settled for a draw after Yerry Mina’s late intervention.

And Surez blamed his side’s inability to hold onto their lead in treacherous conditions. a?It is a point, obviously. We must enjoy it and focus on winning the next one.a
