Manchester City started on a winning note on the opening day by defeating Sunderland 2 a 1 at home.

Good beginning for Pep Guardiola at his new club. His boys managed to beat Sunderland by 2 goals to 1, thanks to the own goal by Sunderlandas Paddy McNair. The home side had domination in possession as expected under Guardiola. They had 77% of the ball but the match was evenly balanced throughout. Sunderland were up to the task and even though they dint have much possession, they put Manchester City under a lot of pressure.

After the win, Pep Guardiola insisted that more work is needed to turn the team into potential title winners of the Premier League. Jermaine Defoe scored on the 71st minute to make it all square and the match could have easily gone the other way but own goal from the opposition gave the home team their first 3 points on the table. As seen in recent years at Bayern and Barcelona, Pep Guardiolaas men kept the ball but were short on intensive and aggressive approach.

The new Manager felt that this was a narrow escape and his team was a bit fortunate to get the 3 points but he also indicated towards the importance of such games which helps in the aspects of required improvements in different departments of the game. This was a short trailer of what is to come from the new Manager for the whole season. He had no hesitation in dropping the two stars of City, Joe Hart and Yaya Toure and he also pointed towards the need of intent from each player to get into the playing 11.

Captain David Silva started in a deeper midfield role from where he was expected to put impetus to the game. The full backs came inside to congest the middle. Typical Guardiolaas pattern which we have witnessed in the past at Bayern Munich.

a?I am very pleased with the performance. Second half we played really well. It will take time for the team to adapt my methodsa?, Said Pep Guardiola. /script>
