Defending champions Bengaluru FC returned to the top of the I-League 2017 table as they defeated Mumbai FC 3-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening. CK Vineeth was the hero on the night as he scored the first ever hat-trick in the club’s history joining Mohun Bagan’s Darryl Duffy atop the scorer’s standings with four goals in three appearances.

1. Santosh Kashyap’s Tactics

Mumbai manager Santosh Kashyap had a solid tactical plan for the game against the holders. He employed tactics to keep the ball away from the defending champions and force errors from the home side. The holders were frustrated by the Mumbai team in the first half who defended their lines well and played to the plan taking out the sting from the BFC attack. Bengaluru tried to use the aerial route to exploit the pace of their wingers Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh but the Mumbai wing-backs were up for the task and kept them at bay. The plan seemed to have been working wonders for the majority of the first half until the Bengaluru side grabbed the lead in the dying seconds of the half.
